Update from James L. Collins: AKA Cheeseburger man

Should you have asked me January first what were my goals, ambitions and purpose for this year—I would have told you I have no clue.  For several weeks I have been searching and seeking to know God’s plan for my life.   Caught up in the demands of life-- job, family, activities, etc...I desired to be used of God.   Little did I realize the earth quake which shattered Haiti would became the turning point in my life.

This turning point came when I received a call from Harold Martin (works for Missionary Flight International).  They needed a fork lift driver in Haiti.  Since I was on medical leave, this was something I knew I could do.  Praying about the decision, my wife and I felt God’s assurance.  Embarking upon the flight that Monday morning, little did we know what the next few days would unfold.

God began a work in my life-- transformed my thinking, my passion, my desires, and my outlook on life.  Committed to a trusting His heart, I am now embarking on a 6 month journey back to Haiti.  I will be working with Operating Blessing, a missionary organization.   I left my job trusting God will provide for all our needs, as a family. (Side note part of our prayer was concerning my job status—doctors report James needed 6-8 more weeks off—the supervisor said medical leave could not be extended—God had already provided a job).

I would like to take this time to let you know of the needs we will be facing as a family. We are stepping out in faith believing that God will supply for every need.   Many may say just trust God, and I am, but I believe God expects us to do our part.  Thus, I am letting people know what our needs are.  I earnestly seek your prayers for the following:   1) My family – their health and finishing this school year 2) pray for my health and well being while I am in Haiti 3) most importantly that God will be able to use me for His Kingdom 4) meeting the extra financial needs that may arise— such as -- health insurance for our family, air fares for my family to come down this summer, and any extra unexpected expenditure.

Rachel and the girls will be staying in Florida.  I will be returning home for one week each month.  Rachel, Erin, and Whitney (who is also taking a mission trip this summer to the Dominican Republic—see her letter on Whitney’s page) plan to travel to Haiti this summer, should God supply the money for the airline tickets.   As a family we are realizing that God has a definite plan and purpose for our family.  The details:  well, we really do not know what they are yet.  The where, when, how and exact details will be revealed in God’s perfect timetable.  Thanks for investing your prayers, support, and encouraging words as we endeavor to fulfill God’s will.   WE would love to hear from you.  Below are several different ways in which you could contact us.

A family with a heartbeat for missions,

The James Collins Family

My schedule looked like this:

·         Flew to Haiti for just one week – working the MFI fork lift

·         Returned from Haiti – renewed and knowing that God wanted me to yield to His total plan for my life.  Blessed to have met the Hendrick’s team, missionaries from MFI, MAF, and Operation Blessings.

·         Returned to Haiti for two weeks – my brother would join me in a few days.

·         Left Haiti knowing that I would either stay home for one week and not return to Haiti or a time of seeking God for His direction and return to Haiti.

·         February 18, 2010 the assurance of knowing that it was His plan that I return to Haiti for six months.  I will be making several trips home during these 6 weeks.

·         February 22, 2010 – Leaving MFI again for Haiti.  Within five days I experienced some “God Moments” confirming that this was His plan.

You may ask what I have done.  I have found that His strength has enabled me to:

·         Distributed food to missionaries who then gave the food to the hungry Haitians

·         Operated a fork lift and unloaded several planes

·         Helped to bridge working relationships between the UN /military personnel and the missionaries.

·         Help to conduct a food drop via a helicopter (video available should you want to see this )

·         Shared the gospel message with those who were hurting and one man received Christ as his savior.

·         Located a high back wheelchair for a handicap child

·         Assisted MAF missionary, John Woodbury in a baptismal service
